Memorial Hospital of Carbon County scored high above the state average on a recent patient satisfaction survey.
The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAP, conducts nation-wide patient satisfaction surveys. Patients are asked a series of 19 questions about their recent hospital stay. Questions are rated from a low of zero to a high of ten.
Memorial Hospital of Carbon County Marketing, Communications & Foundation Director Stephanie Hinkle said the HCAP data is used to compare MHCC against other healthcare providers in the state and across the county.
Hinkle said MHCC scored very highly in the most recent HCAP study for the months of September through October. The hospital communications director said MHCC received a perfect score in the most important category: hospital satisfaction.
According to a news release issued by Hinkle, the state average for hospital satisfaction is 71%.
Hinkle said patients also recommended MHCC at a higher rate than the state average. Hinkle said this statistic is as important as overall hospital satisfaction.
Hinkle focused on four other areas where MHCC scored higher than the state average on the HCAP survey. Hinkle said patients were highly satisfied with hospital staff.
The HCAP survey only takes into account people who stayed in the hospital while receiving treatment.
Hinkle attributes the hospital’s high scores to quality staff interaction. The hospital communications director said patients meet with a staff member who provides them with relevant information soon after being admitted.
Hinkle said employees really make the difference when it comes to patient satisfaction. The hospital communications director said every staff member helps to ensure a patient’s stay is as pleasant as possible.
Hinkle said the HCAP survey data is objective, real-time proof that the hospital is doing a good job. The hospital communications director said she hopes sharing the data will make the public reconsider their preconceived notions about the quality of care provided by Memorial Hospital of Carbon County.
Hinkle said the HCAP survey data will allow hospital administrators to pinpoint areas where MHCC is excelling or needs improvement. The hospital communications director said she will continue to publicly share the information, whether good or bad.
