The Wyoming Cowboys suffered their first home loss of the season Saturday night, falling 84-71 to Weber State inside the Arena Auditorium.

The Cowboy shooters were a dry well. The Pokes went over nine minutes without a bucket. Wyoming defense played couldn’t get defensive stops, either. Weber State shot 56 percent from the field and hit all 15 of their free throw shots.

Wyoming led by 6 early in the first half but a 10-point scoring run by the Big Sky opponent left the Cowboys struggling.

Wyoming falls to 6-4 on the season after their first home loss of the season. The scoring leaders for UW were Aquel Kott with 24 and Sam Griffin with 22.

Head Coach Jeff Linder put much of the blame for the loss on Wyoming’s inability to guard the ball and make stops.

Foul trouble also nagged the Wyoming offense all night. Senior guard Brendan Wenzel and Freshman forward Caden Powell each picked up three fouls in the first half.

The Cowboys just could not get cut deep enough into the lead the Wildcats built at the end of the first half. Weber answered every Wyoming run, keeping their lead out of reach.

Linder blamed the loss on effort.

The Cowboys won’t have much time to think about it. Wyoming plays South Dakota State University on Wednesday night at the West Star Sun Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational. Tip is set for 5 p.m. Bigfoot 99 will be on the air 4:30 with the pregame show.
