Television crews are in Carbon County filming tow truck operators for the Weather Channel.
Rocky Mountain Wreckers is a reality show focused on heavy vehicle recovery operations. Series producer Todd Serotiuk said the show follows heavy-duty tow truck operators from three states as they work to remove crashed vehicles from the area’s roadways. Serotiuk said the Wyoming weather presents a unique challenge for the wrecker crews.
Serotiuk said in Wyoming, film crews are following Stauffer’s Towing & Recovery from Utah and Big Al’s Towing in Cheyenne. The producer said crews are primarily splitting their time between Rawlins and Rock Springs.
Serotiuk said when planning for this season of Rocky Mountain Wreckers, he considered filming in more mountainous areas. Serotiuk said employees of Stauffer’s Towing recommended he look at Interstate 80 instead. The television producer said scouting crews immediately knew that I80 would produce the type of footage they were after.
Serotiuk said I80 did not disappoint. The extreme weather gave Rocky Mountain Wreckers a the chance to showcase the efforts of the heavy-duty tow truck operators.
Serotiuk said the area’s weather took his crew by surprise. He said the wind caused problems with filming the television show.
Serotiuk said his crew was not prepared for early January’s subzero temperatures. He said his experienced camera operators were unsure if they could continue filming the show if the weather didn’t improve.
Serotiuk said the extreme weather compared to the beautiful scenery makes for good television. The producer said the show’s heavy-duty wrecker crews have responded to some unusual calls.
Serotiuk said Rocky Mountain Wreckers will continue filming in our area until late March or early April. The television producer said he is very pleased by how his team has been treated.
This season of Rocky Mountain Wreckers is scheduled to air sometime in the fall on The Weather Channel. Serotiuk said he hopes that viewers learn safe driving techniques from watching the show.
