Residents of southern Wyoming and visitors traveling through Carbon County are advised that weather conditions will be very windy today with possible snow that could make road conditions dangerous at times today.
The National Weather Service advises that westerly winds of 35 to 45 miles per hour are possible across southern Wyoming. Wind speeds around Cooper Cove and Halleck Ridge on the eastern side of Carbon County were reportedly blowing in excess of 60 miles per hour around 9:00 a.m. Monday morning. The winds will impact much of southeast Wyoming along and east of the Laramie Range, including Cheyenne and Laramie along with Wheatland and Douglas on the I-25 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the primary impact of this weather event will be on travel. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to both light-weight and high-profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers, which will be susceptible to blowing over, especially on north-south roadways.
Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 MPH with gusts to 60 miles per hour can be expected today.
