One week after closing the Snowy Range Scenic Byway, the Wyoming Department of Transportation announced that Battle Pass is also closed for the season.

On Wednesday morning, WYDOT Senior Public Relations Specialist Andrea Staley released a statement saying that crews stationed in the Baggs and Saratoga areas determined that current road conditions and future weather forecasts warranted the closure of the section of Highway 70 that runs through Battle Pass.

The announcement came one week and a day after WYDOT ceased plowing efforts in the Snowy Range between the Green Rock trailhead and Ryan Park.

In an official statement, Staley wrote that the area of Highway 70 running through Battle Pass was closed on Wednesday morning because of strong winds and drifting snow. Additional snowfall received the previous morning caused WYDOT crews in Saratoga and Baggs to start the seasonal closure.

Staley added that last year, Battle Pass remained open for an additional week, not closing until December 4th.

Like the Snowy Range Scenic Byway, which closed a week earlier, Highway 70 will remain impassable until WYDOT crews can clear the accumulated snow in spring. Both roads are typically open by Memorial Day.
