In Saratoga, work continues to move forward on the long-delayed Never Forget Park near Veteran’s Island.
During the January 7th Saratoga town council meeting, Public Works Director Emery Penner asked the governing body to allow Point Architects, of Cody, Wyoming, to design restrooms for the memorial park. Originally, the plan called for precast bathrooms to be installed in the park. However, Penner explained that this option would be very expensive. Instead, Point Architects proposed stick-built restrooms that are more cost-effective, and the design can be used in other areas of town.
Never Forget Park was initially conceived as a memorial to honor Staff Sergeant Tyler Pickett, who was killed while serving in Iraq in 2008. Over time, the project expanded to honor all military and emergency personnel who sacrificed their lives.
The scope of the project changed numerous times over the 16-plus years since Pickett’s death.
Construction finally began last fall with the installation of concrete curbs and gutters on the corner of Pic Pike Road and East River Street.
During his presentation at the January 7th Saratoga town council meeting, Public Works Director Penner said the newly proposed bathrooms will be inexpensive to build and easy to maintain.
Penner said the bathrooms are designed to allow town employees to easily perform repairs.
The Saratoga town council voted to use Point Architects’ bathroom designs for an undisclosed price.
The town also voted to have Point Architects design an outdoor amphitheater for Never Forget Park.
