Playing without rhythm, and at times, much energy, the Wyoming Cowboys struggled from the start against Colorado State on Saturday afternoon, losing at home 79-63.

The Cowboys got off to a slow start, unable to defend the Rams, falling behind by as many as 15 points with less than two minutes until the break. Three-point looks did not present themselves, but the Cowboys were on spot at the free throw line. Obi Agbim hit two with one second on the clock as the half approached. With the help of a seven-point run headed into the break, Wyoming trailed 36-28.

Wyoming’s play in the second half didn’t improve. The Pokes hit only five three pointers on the night. Headed into the game, Wyoming was leading the conference for threes. The Pokes were held to under 40 percent from the field on the night and 22.7 percent from behind the arc.

“Punked in the paint” all night. That’s how head coach Sundance Wicks summed up the loss.

The head coach said he was unhappy with the lack of physical play on Wyoming’s part. His message to the Cowboys was clear.

The Pokes were led by Obi Agbim with 26 points for his sixth game this season with 20 or more points. He also tied a season-high with six rebounds to lead the team. He finished the contest with 10 field goals tying a season high. Dontaie Allen recorded 14 points tying a season-high for his fourth game in double-figures. He was 3-of-5 from behind the arc.

The Cowboys are now 9-9 on the season, 2-5 in conference play.

Wyoming now heads to Las Vegas for a matchup on Tuesday against UNLV in the Thomas & Mack Center. Tip is set for 9 p.m.
