The Wyoming Legislature overrode four of Governor Mark Gordon’s line-item vetoes to the budget on Friday.

The governor vetoed several portions of the compromise budget on Thursday evening.  Overrides require a two-thirds majority vote in each chamber, and four out of the seven proposals approved by the Senate passed in the House to restore those sections of the spending plan.

While approving most of the biennium budget, Gordon took issue with how the Legislature approached the constitutional role of the legislative branch and funding for items like the University of Wyoming, state employees and the Wyoming Business Council.

The House failed to muster enough votes to hold back a $40 million block grant to the University of Wyoming.

House Speaker Chip Neiman told House members on Friday to return this Wednesday for veto overrides on standalone bills.

The Legislature has until midnight on Wednesday to wrap up its business, including potential veto override votes.
