Rawlins Shooting Range Advisory Board members volunteered recently to improve the outdoor range.
Earlier this month, Rawlins Shooting Range Advisory Board members donated a weekend their time to repair the outdoor pistol range wall. Speaking at the April 21st Rawlins City Council meeting, shooting range board member Megan McComas thanked two local companies for supplying materials and equipment for the repairs. McComas said the volunteers contributed a total of 60 hours to the project, ensuring the facility is safe for range patrons.
The nine‑member Rawlins Shooting Range Advisory Board oversees the city’s indoor and four outdoor shooting ranges.
The board is also responsible for arranging tournaments and competitive leagues at both facilities.
Board members focused on reinforcing the dividing walls between the outdoor shooting lanes. Rock was placed behind the rebuilt sections for added protection against ricochets and back-splash.
In a media release announcing the improvements, City Manager Matt Hall is quoted as saying, “When people who care put in the work, our community’s resources can go even further. Thanks to all the volunteers and City staff who worked over the weekend to help ensure this facility remains safe and ready to serve residents and visitors alike.”
The Shooting Range Advisory Board is seeking a second alternate member. Applications can be found at Rawlins City Hall, located at 521 West Cedar Street, or online by visiting www.rawlinswy.gov and clicking on Boards and Commissions under the Government tab.
The Outdoor Shooting Range is scheduled to reopen on May 1st.
