Today’s Headlines:
- With the issue of school safety heightened after last month’s tragedy at a Florida high school, Safe-2-Tell Wyoming is looking to support students in submitting anonymous tips to stop potential threats to their schools and communities.
- A decade ago, when Wyoming was flush with a billion-dollar budget surplus, the legislature repealed the state’s four percent sales tax on food , saying it hit low income people disproportionately. Tough economic times have caused some to suggest the food tax should be reinstated. Officials in Rawlins are among them. Rawlins City Council, along with the city manager, will push to bring back the food tax but keep the wind energy production tax where it is at next month’s annual meeting of the Wyoming Association of Municipalities.
- Representatives from OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, visited Saratoga last week to inspect the town’s on-the-job safety efforts. While each department complies with standards, some items for improvement have been identified.
- The County Commissioners took time during this week’s regular meeting to bring newly appointed board member Bob Davis up to speed on the county’s potential involvement in a class action lawsuit against opioid manufacturers.
