More than 2,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Rawlins and Sinclair were without electricity early Thursday morning. The company reports that power went out around 4:15 a.m. It was restored about three hours later at 7:00 a.m.

Because temperatures had dropped to 20 degrees below zero overnight, Carbon County Emergency Management activated four warm shelters and was on standby to provide other services. Emergency Management Coordinator Lenny Layman said told Bigfoot 99 that the dispatch center did not receive any calls from residents needing help during the outage.

The superintendent of Carbon County School District 1, Mike Hammel, said that the campuses in Rawlins were never without power during the emergency. Hammel said schools were operating as normal Thursday.
