Memorial Hospital of Carbon County is hosting a golf tournament to raise money to purchase needed medical equipment.

Next Thursday, August 24th, is the start of the 5th Annual Foundation Fun Scramble. MHCC Marketing, Communications, and Foundation Director Stephanie Hinkle said the two-day golf event is hosted by the non-profit fundraising arm of the hospital. Hinkle said money raised during the MHCC Foundation event will go to buying new medical equipment.

Hinkle said she has been working on this year’s fundraiser since March. The MHCC Foundation director said during the planning stage, the foundation determines what improvements the hospital requires.

Hinkle said money raised at this year’s event will go toward three specific pieces of medical equipment. The MHCC Foundation director said the money will be used to purchase a portable ultrasound machine, a bladder scanner, and a Microbiology Automated ID System. Hinkle said her goal is to raise $65,000.

The 5th Annual Foundation Fun Scramble will feature two days of golf at the Rochelle Ranch Golf Course. Hinkle said the event begins with a golf calcutta on Thursday, August 24th, at 6:00pm. A golf calcutta is a type of betting system that involves an auction where participants bid on the team they think will win the tournament. The highest bidder becomes the owner of that team. The money raised from the auction goes into a pool, which is then distributed to the owners of the top two teams. Hinkle said the calcutta allows golfers and non-golfers to participate in the fundraiser.

The calcutta is free to enter and does not require people to register beforehand. Twenty percent of the money raised during the calcutta will go directly to the hospital. The remaining 80% will be divided 60/40 between the two winning teams. Immediately following the calcutta will be a chipping contest.

Hinkle said during the calcutta, the MHCC Foundation will auction off an art piece donated by the Carbon County Higher Education Center. Hinkle said all proceeds from the auction will go to the Tyeler Harris Memorial Fund to provide training for future EMTs.

The main golf tournament begins at 9:00am the next day, Friday, August 25th. Hinkle said 20 teams of four golfers will pay $300 a team to participate in the tournament. The hospital foundation director said more fun events will be offered during the golf tournament. Hinkle said the event will benefit the entire county.

Hinkle said the Rochelle Ranch Golf Course restaurant, called the 19th Hole, will offer free breakfast burritos for tournament participants on Friday morning.

Hinkle said the $300 tournament fee also includes cart rentals. The MHCC Foundation director said thanks to several sponsors, participants will also receive a bag of branded items.

Hinkle said the golf tournament will be divided into men’s, women’s, and mixed teams. The foundation director said each winning team will receive $625 to split between the four members. Hinkle said small prizes will be given out for the other games occurring during the tournament as well. She said the Rawlins Fire Department will participate in a 50/50 ball drop. Hinkle said the person holding the winning ticket will get half of the ticket sales.

Hinkle said she has space for one additional team for Friday’s tournament. Because the event is happening soon, Hinkle said to call her directly at 324-8378 to register.

Even though the golf tournament isn’t until next week, fundraising has already begun. An MHCC sponsored online auction went live yesterday morning. Hinkle said the auction when strictly online in response to COVID related concerns. The MHCC Foundation director said having the auction occur over the internet opens the bidding to a wider selection of people.

The hospital’s online auction contains items such as gift baskets, gift certificates for local businesses, and handmade craft items. Hinkle said the donations are worth bidding on.

Go to https://www.32auctions.com/MHCC2023 to view and bid on the items. All proceeds from the auction sales go to purchasing new equipment for the hospital.

The Memorial Hospital of Carbon County 5th Annual Foundation Fun Scramble begins next Thursday, August 24th, at the Rochelle Ranch Golf Course in Rawlins. The following day, Friday, August 25th, is the golf tournament.
