Hanna residents were able to re-enter their homes Sunday afternoon after the wildfire dubbed the “316 Fire” burned dangerously close to town.

All residents of the Hanna were evacuated Saturday under full, mandatory evacuations issued by Carbon County Emergency Management. Roughly 67 families, 200 individuals and 100 small pets (birds, dogs and cats) were put up by the American Red Cross at 7 Laramie hotels.

Black Hills Energy technicians started the process Monday of bringing natural gas customers back online following the request of local firefighters to completely shut down the Hanna system.

In an email to Bigfoot 99, Black Hills Energy reported that it is working through Labor Day Monday in order to bring customers in Hanna back online prior to a predicted winter storm hitting the area.

“The process of bringing customers back on to the system requires several steps,” said Bo Secrest, gas operations manager for Black Hills Energy Wyoming.

“We must first make sure all gas meters are off, then purge the system so that it’s ready for the reintroduction of the natural gas supply. Finally, our technicians will need to go door-to-door and relight each customer’s gas appliances.”

Black Hills Energy customers can assist in expediting the relighting efforts by providing access to gas meters and restraining pets who may be on the premises. Additionally, it is required that someone over 18 years of age be present during the relighting process.
