The Saratoga man accused of manslaughter in the fentanyl-overdose deaths of two of his friends was in court on Tuesday where his bond was reduced.

Max Schneider was arrested on February 17th and held in the Carbon County Jail on $150,000 cash-only bond. Schneider’s bond was reduced to $30,000 during his preliminary hearing in Circuit Court.

The 23-year-old is accused of distributing the Schedule 2 drug, fentanyl, to Cassadee Wingo and Richard Heap. Court documents show that Schneider alleges he found a small baggie of white powder in the bathroom of the restaurant where he worked. Schneider told investigators he gave the baggie to a co-worker, 27-year-old Wingo, who then shared the drugs with 28-year-old Heap. Both died later that night of a fentanyl overdose.

Schneider is charged with one count of distributing a controlled substance and two counts of manslaughter. Following yesterday afternoon’s Circuit Court appearance, Schneider’s case was bound over to District Court.

The next step will be an arraignment hearing in District Court. A date has not been set for the hearing.
