Carbon County Fair Week kicks off a week from this Saturday. Julie Webb, the Administrative Assistant for the Fair Board, said things are coming together under this year’s theme, “Stirrup Some Fun.”

Events start at 7 a.m. on the final Saturday of July with the Lions Club Breakfast at the Jeffery Center followed by the parade downtown. Then the action moves over to the fairgrounds with the 4-H Open Class dog show, exhibits and a mud volleyball tournament, where contestants get down and dirty. Webb said mud volleyball has taken on a life of its own at the fair.

Businesses, social organizations and friends sponsor teams. Half of the proceeds go the 4-H Foundation.

Since mud volleyball won’t be going to midnight this year, the fun will move over to the Parco Sinclair Theater. On Saturday night, the first night of the fair, Kip Attaway is performing at the Parco Sinclair Theater.

Paro Sinclair Theater director Monty Thayer went out of his way to book the legendary entertainer, who is known for both his music and his comedy, to set the tone for the start of Fair.

Thayer said he was happy to land Attaway for the opening night of Fair Week. Attaway’s brand of down-to-earth comedy and country music is a perfect fit for the fair. He’ll be packing a lot of entertainment for an affordable price thanks to some local businesses, Thayer said.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for a cocktail prior to the show. Local musician John Laux will open at 7 p.m. followed by Kip Attaway at 8 p.m.

More music is on tap for Fair Week with Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band playing on Wednesday, August 3rd.

The concert is produced in cooperation with HF Sinclair, and the Carbon County Visitor’s Council. Tickets are available at Eventbrite.com.

Hell On Wheels is producing the open rodeo on Thursday, August 4th. The Cheyenne based outfit also puts on a Chuck Wagon Dinner with their rodeo series. Tickets for the rodeo are also available at Eventbrite.com.

The Junior Livestock Sale Buyer’s Luncheon will be at noon on Friday, August 5th, and the Junior Livestock Sale is slated to start at 1:00 p.m. that day. This is a great way to purchase some quality animals to fill your freezer. The Demolition Derby will happen on Saturday, August 6th at 4 p.m.

Along the way, the fair promises some baking and barbecue competitions and we’ll have more on those as we get closer to Fair Week, when all the fun starts on Saturday, July 30th.
