The Carbon County’s Sheriff will be in Saratoga tomorrow to speak to the town council. During his campaign for the job during last year’s election, Alex Bakken made a commitment to be open and transparent. To keep his campaign promise, Sheriff Bakken said he is traveling to each town in the county to provide an update on his department.

Tomorrow, Sheriff Bakken will attend the Saratoga town council. During his presentation, the sheriff said he will tell the council about the projects his office has undertaken. Sheriff Bakken said he is especially proud of his new school-based law enforcement program.

Law enforcement agencies across the county are experiencing difficulties finding and retaining qualified staff. Sheriff Bakken said he has been fortunate. He said the perks of being a sheriff’s deputy have drawn several competent people to his department.

Sheriff Bakken said his presentation to the Saratoga town council will touch on schedule changes and staffing. Even with five new deputies, Sheriff Bakken said he is still searching for more candidates to join his office. He said not everyone is qualified to be a sheriff’s deputy.

After discussing departmental updates and his future goals, the sheriff will open the floor to questions from the public. Sheriff Bakken said he hasn’t gotten many inquiries during the other town council meetings he has attended.

Sheriff Bakken invited the public to tomorrow’s meeting. The Saratoga town council meeting starts at 6:00pm at the Saratoga Town Hall at 110 East Spring Avenue.
