Children of Saratoga are putting on a play based on Roald Dahl’s most famous work.

Next month, Saratoga Middle/High School kids will perform their rendition of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Platte Valley Community Center. Drama Club Coach Marie Christen said the production will feature the largest number of students she’s ever had participate in a play.

Christen said the play is based on the 1971 movie version of the story, starring Gene Wilder. She said the kids have been rehearsing since December. While the play will contain some musical numbers, Christen said the kids won’t be required to sing on stage.

On Monday, Christen will hold an open casting call for elementary school children. The younger kids will play small parts such as Oompa-Loompa’s. Christen said she’ll find a place for everyone who wants to participate.

Parts in the play are also available to kids who don’t physically attend school. Christen said home school children are also able to audition. She said the Platte Valley Drama Club is considered an interscholastic activity.

Christen said, for the first time, audience members can purchase Platte Valley Drama Club themed merchandise. She said clothing and other types of promotional material will be available during the show.

The Platte Valley Drama Club’s free presentation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be held in the theater of the PVCC. Christen said the children will perform four shows over the course of three nights.

Auditions for elementary age kids will be held at the Platte Valley Community Center on Monday at 6:00pm. Do as the Oompa-Loompa doompety do and come see the play.
