Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney’s re-election ads in Wyoming refrain from attacking Donald Trump or his supporters. After all, Trump won the state in 2020 with biggest percentage of votes in the country. Behind the scenes, Wyoming’s Congresswoman is playing by a different set of rules. She’s going after Trump allies through her position as co-chair of the January 6th committee. Some are fighting back. Former Trump advisor Peter Navarro is one of them. After a public arrest and perp walk on Friday, Navarro said the January 6th committee is out to intimidate anyone who voted for Trump in 2020.

The FBI arrested Navarrao on two charges of contempt for failing to comply with a subpoena from the January 6th House panel. Cheney is the public face of the committee. Navarro said the committee is operating without constitutional authority.

Each count of contempt of Congress carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and $100,000. Navarro was arrested at an airport, put in handcuffs and leg irons, and booked into a Washington, D.C. jail. His crime: refusing to appear before Cheney’s committee.

The arrest came within hours of a court appearance in which Navarro vowed to contest the contempt of Congress charges.

Also on Friday, in a related development, the House committee suffered a defeat when the Department of Justice said it would not prosecute similar contempt charges against to other Trump allies. The DOJ declined to prosecute Mark Meadows, Trump’s chief of staff, and Dan Scavino, the deputy chief. Both had refused to honor the panel’s subpoenas.

The DOJ’s decision not to prosecute Trump’s inner circle, comes as Cheney prepares for a critical few weeks that may make or break week for her political career. The January 6th committee will hold a prime time hearing Thursday, the first of six, to discuss its investigation. She told CBS News that Trump and his supporters are a continuing threat to the nation.

Cheney and the January 6th committee will present its findings a half-dozen hearings scheduled for prime time. The first is June 9th. This will be the first time the committee discloses “previously unseen material” about what it discovered during its sprawling 10-month investigation.

The panel promises to present a summary of its findings about “the coordinated, multi-step effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.”

Cheney’s replacement as Chair of the House Republican Conference, Representative Elise Stefanik of New York, is promising to deliver counterprogramming – a flurry of rapid response “media bookings” to push back against the committee’s narrative.

Stefanik told Breitbart News that the committee is carrying out a political witch hunt rather than looking into issues Americans really carry about, such as the price of food and gas, or supply chain shortages.

Stefanik replaced Cheney as the third-ranking House Republican after House members ousted Cheney in May of last year for her continued attacks on former President Trump. Following the vote, Cheney told reporters she will do “everything” she can to ensure Trump “never gets anywhere near the Oval Office.”
