The Rawlins City Council this week postponed the second reading of an amendment to the municipal code concerning jail time for certain criminal violations.

The proposed change was sold to council as a simple “housekeeping” update but the county attorney’s office weighed in on the issue this week, saying the shift could impact on how some violations are enforced in the city and how her office would have to pick up the slack.

Cali O’Hare reports.
