Jose Valdez made his initial appearance in Circuit Court at Monday afternoon from the county jail a video stream from the jail. As Judge Susan Stipe read through the seven charges he’s facing, an Valdez appeared amused at times, grinning, shaking his head and chuckling to himself. Valdez, wearing an orange and white striped jailhouse jumpsuit, spoke only when asked by the judge if he had anything to say regarding his $100,000 cash only bond. He replied that he could make the bond.

The court appointed a public defender to represent Valdez. The Colorado man will next appear back in Circuit Court with his attorney for a preliminary hearing on September 8th. Valdez will not have an opportunity to enter a plea to any of the charges until his case is bound over to the District Court, which handles felony cases. Bigfoot 99 mistakenly reported that Valdez had been released Friday. We apologize for that error. Unable to make bond, Valdez remains in Carbon County Jail.
