The man hunt continues today for the killer of Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Wednesday at the Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Flags are flying at half-staff across the United States through Sunday by order of President Donald Trump.

Famous for conducting question and answer sessions with students on college campuses, Kirk was assassinated while responding to a question about transgenderism and gun violence. The shooting occurred at about 12:20 mountain time from a rooftop assassin.

Kirk’s body was pushed backward in his chair, and blood gushed from his neck. Another video shows the large crowd that had gathered for the event scattering as Kirk fell over on the stage.

As he was shot, Kirk was responding to a question about transgender people being allowed to own firearms.

A second video shows a group of men rushing Kirk into a nearby private vehicle and he was rushed to the hospital.

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, President Trump ordered “all American Flags throughout the United States be lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m.”

On the campus of USU, law enforcement officers and federal agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives wearing tactical gear fanned out across the campus. The campus, surrounded by mountains, is home to just under 29,000 students.

As he often did during his campus events, Kirk was sitting under a tent on a folding chair as he fielded questions from the crowd. Video shows him pitching backward in his chair following the gun shot.

Sources say the weapon was likely a high-power rifle. Although video showed one elderly man was arrested at the scene, authorities say the shooter remains at large. The university reported the gunman fired from the university’s Losee Center, 200 yards from where Kirk was speaking.

Wyoming’s Congressional Delegation condemned the murder.

Kirk spoke at the University of Wyoming on April 24, 2025, as part of his nationwide “American Comeback Tour.” He drew a sold-out crowd of over 1,800 students and community members to the Arts and Sciences Auditorium in Laramie.

The theme of Kirk’s speech at UW this spring was fight for Western Civilization.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon released the following statement following Kirk’s murder.

“As citizens, we must take this moment to reaffirm our commitment to protecting our ability to speak openly on our views, without fear. Political violence must never be tolerated. We, as a nation, are diminished because of this senseless act.”

Charlie Kirk was born in 1993. He leaves behind a wife and two young children.
