You can’t trust a fortune cookie to correctly predict your future. And you shouldn’t trust mysterious seeds from China that might arrive in your mailbox.

The Carbon County Emergency Manager is joining the State Department of Agriculture in urging the public to be on the lookout for unsolicited white or yellow envelopes sent from China.

People in over two dozen states, including Wyoming, have reported receiving such packages, which contain unlabeled and unidentified seeds. Cali O’Hare reports.

Wyomingites who receive unsolicited seeds in packages from China should:

1. Preserve the mailing envelope itself, and ensure you do not open the seed packages contained within it. Do not plant the seeds!

2. Contact Bruce Shambaugh with the Wyoming USDA-APHIS office at 307-432-7979 or by email at Bruce.A.Shambaugh@usda.gov
