The Wyoming Department of Transportation is preparing to repair the damaged bridge near Rawlins.
On the morning of July 20th, a semi-truck traveling westbound on Interstate 80 veered off the road and stuck the support pillars of the Exit 214 overpass bridge outside of Rawlins. One of the four pillars was destroyed, while the other three were damaged.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation initially closed that portion of Interstate 80 while engineers evaluated the bridge. After determining it would not collapse, traffic was allowed to pass under the structure again. However, the portion of South Higley Boulevard that crosses over the bridge is still closed.
Yesterday, WYDOT District 1 Public Relations Specialist Jaxon Penfield announced that the state agency will begin seeking contractors to repair the damaged bridge supports in October. More information will be available once the project schedule is finalized. Penfield did not provide an estimated start date for the repairs.
