In another big development at Tuesday night’s Saratoga Town Council meeting, and completely unrelated to the rejection of the land swap, first-term Councilmember Ben Spaulding submitted his resignation.

The pain and sadness were obvious as Spaulding, who works at HF Sinclair Refinery, made a public statement regarding his decision.

Spaulding has been very active heading up the Platte Valley Little League for the last seven years, spearheading both the growth in the league and its move to the new baseball fields in Saratoga.

The mayor, council and others in the chambers expressed their gratitude for Spaulding’s contributions.

The mayor, by statute, can appoint someone to fill the remainder of Spaulding’s term based on letters of interest.

In the meantime, Councilwoman D’Ron Campbell was appointed to serve on the rec board in place of Spaulding. The mayor will serve as the council contact with the police. Hutchins was appointed mayor pro-tem.
