The Petroleum Association of Wyoming (PAW) is seeking to intervene in a lawsuit filed file by two radical, anti-carbon environmental groups that seek to end drilling on federal lands in the Cowboy State.

The lawsuit, Center for Biological Diversity and WildEarth Guardians v United States Department of Interior, et. al. pending before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, requests that more than 800 drilling permits issued in the state over the last two years be halted.

All but three percent of the permits are held by PAW member companies. The out-of–state activists also ask the court to stop the Bureau of Land Management from granting any new permits.

In a statement, PAW said the lawsuit jeopardizes Wyoming’s economy, state revenue, and the thousands of careers dependent upon the oil and natural gas industry in the state. Wyoming is ranked as first in natural gas production on federal lands and second in oil production.
