Breaking news from Saratoga Town Council: The half-year or more of negotiations between the town and a private property owner over a proposed land swap came to an end last night with no deal.

Following a public hearing, the governing body voted 3-2 to reject the land swap with Dr. Michael Janssen.

Mayor Creed James and Councilman Ron Hutchins were the two “yea” votes. Public comments prior to the vote largely opposed the deal. The private lot involved in the proposed land deal is adjacent to the site for the Never Forget Memorial Park near Veteran’s Island. The town’s property is located on the overlook at Myrtle and Veterans.

Also last night, Councilman Ben Spaulding submitted his resignation and left the meeting before it adjourned. We’ll have more on both those stories and what happens next in developing Never Forget Memorial park.
