Special report: Looking back at 2008’s Sixth Penny voting stats
The year was 2008, November. The presidential election featured the Obama/Biden ticket versus McCain and Palin.
On that same ballot here in Carbon County was the Sixth Penny Specific Purpose Tax. Turnout was large, and 66 percent of the voters checked yes for the levee.
Next month’s special election on May 7th may not see the same numbers of voters turn out, but officials are hoping for a similar result. Emma Diercks takes a look at how the voting went community by community that year.
Crews begin patching pesky potholes in Rawlins
The smell of molten asphalt has never seemed so pleasing – and for good reason: Rawlins city crews are starting to repair the bumper crop of potholes around town.
With temperatures finally warm enough to allow the work to proceed, the Public Works Department fired up its hot-mix plant earlier this week. Cali O’Hare has the latest on the plan to patch up city streets.
Saratoga working to remove unlicensed vehicles from rights-of-way
The Town of Saratoga is again attempting to get unlicensed vehicles off the public rights-of-way. The town council is working with the police department to start taking action in May. Emma Diercks reports.
Union Pacific reschedules locomotive appearance in Rawlins
The Union Pacific Railroad Company has announced some changes to its 2019 steam schedule, including delaying the debut of the historic locomotive known as the Big Boy.
The change in schedule means the engines won’t come through Carbon County this weekend, but area residents will still have a chance to see them in Rawlins next month. Cali O’Hare reports.
Town of Saratoga seeking funding for water well field generator
The Town of Saratoga is applying for a $125,000 grant for a back-up generator at the municipality’s water well field. The generator was recommended in 2010 but funding was not available at that time. Emma Diercks has the story.
