Graduation rates improve statewide and CCSD1, decrease in CCSD2

Wyoming’s high school graduation rate improved for the fifth year in a row. Carbon County School District One saw an increase while District Two experienced a decrease. Emma Diercks reports.

 

 

TransWest Express updates officials on permit status

During January’s Carbon County Council of Governments meeting, representatives from TransWest Express provided area officials with an update on the company’s pursuit of a state permit for its electrical transmission line project. Cali O’Hare was at the meeting and has the update.

 

 

County search and rescue team assists stranded snowmobiler

Carbon County Search and Rescue came to the aid of another stranded, out-of-state snowmobiler last week. The Carbon County Sheriff’s Department reports that a man from Iowa called for help after his sled became stuck near the Quealy Warming Hut on the West Side of the Snowy Range. Devon Ray Johnson of Sheldon, Iowa, called 911 and reported his location.

Johnson said he did not have food or necessities to survive the night after becoming separated from his companions. A search and rescue team from Ryan Park and Saratoga located the snowmobiler just before 6 p.m. and dug out his sled. Everyone made it back to the command post safely.

 

Saratoga officials continue to weigh proposed zoning changes

A proposed memorandum of understanding allows the Town of Saratoga to provide comment on land use changes up to a mile outside the town’s incorporated limits. The process would not be completely reciprocal. Saratoga officials would only comment on proposed zone or development modifications up to three hundred feet outside town limits. Emma Diercks reports.
