Governor Mark Gordon criticized the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule that targets coal- and gas-fired power plants, saying the “heavy-handed approach” does not target emissions.
The Governor also criticized the Biden Administration plan for not supporting innovations carbon capture and storage that Wyoming has been pioneering.
In a statement from the Governor’s Office, Gordon said the EPA’s proposed rule “complicates and confounds” Wyoming’s recently submitted state plan for climate pollution reduction. It also increases costs for power plant operators and threatens grid stability.
The Governor emphasized his support for carbon capture technology as a viable technology to manage carbon releases.
The Governor said, “EPA must work with states on solutions that meet the needs of those states, rather than release edicts from afar that will destroy Wyoming jobs and communities, such as this proposed rule.”
Governor Gordon will make two stops in Carbon County today.
The Governor will attend the grand opening of the Carbon County Courthouse in Rawlins this morning. The public is invited to the event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Various county offices may be closed so that staff can attend the ceremony.
This afternoon, the Governor will be in Saratoga to help celebrate the grand opening of the North Platte Valley Medical Center at a ribbon cutting ceremony. U.S. Senator John Barrasso will also attend the event. The official grand opening ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the hospital, followed by a Saratoga-Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce Social and Community Celebration at the Platte Valley Community Center.
