On the heels of last week’s meeting in Pinedale, Governor Mark Gordon will visit Rawlins Tuesday afternoon to discuss the impacts of the late winter and early spring snowstorms on the area’s wildlife.

Governor Mark Gordon will appear at the Jeffery Center with Wyoming Game Fish Director Brian Nesvik on Tuesday to discuss winter mortality on the area’s elk, mule deer, and pronghorn herds and to collect public input.

State Representative Donald Burkhart of House District 15 in Rawlins is helping to coordinate tomorrow’s meeting. Burkhart said wildlife in Carbon County have endured an especially hard winter.

Multiple elk were hit by vehicles on Interstate 80 just west of Walcott Junction in early March or late February.

Rep. Burkhart said Governor Gordon, after attending last week’s meeting in the Pinedale library, wanted to hold a similar meeting in Rawlins. The only night available on the governor’s schedule is tomorrow night.

Rep. Burkhart said the Governor will be joined by Wyoming Game and Fish Director Brian Nesvik. Local game and fish officials will be on hand, as well.

At last week’s meeting in Pinedale, Dr. Kevin Monteith of the University of Wyoming School of Environment and Natural Resources indicated that Carbon County was hit hard by this year’s winter storms.

Game and Fish officials said hunting seasons likely will be affected by this winter’s mortality rates on various herds around the state.

Tomorrow’s meeting in Rawlins is scheduled for 4-to-5:30 p.m.—Tuesday afternoon, April 4—at the Jefferey Center.
