Valley Village Childcare, in Saratoga, has leased the ground around the day care facility for 100 years.

During the September 5th Saratoga town council meeting, Valley Village Childcare Board Vice Chairwoman Ellie Dana said she submitted the necessary paperwork to lease town-owned property adjacent to the Corbett Medical Building. Dana said she is ready to pay the town $100 for a century long lease for the land. Dana said the lease requires the land to be adapted to the day care’s needs.

The land will be used as a play area for the day care.

Following the lease signing, Dana presented a written list of alterations that need to be made to the land. The Valley Village vice chairwoman said she plans to install a bicycle rack by the entrance as well as remove the concrete ambulance driveway on the east side of the building. Dana invited people to take the concrete pieces after the demolition occurs.

Valley Village will install a 4-foot-tall chain link fence around the property. Dana said she’ll also provide play structures, such as a splash table and a sand pit. The Valley Village vice chairwoman said additional equipment will be placed inside of the children’s fenced in play space.

Dana said the northeast corner of the play area fence will be angled to avoid interrupting sightlines at the intersection of South River Street and Constitution Avenue. Dana also said she’ll have a concrete walking path poured from the daycare to the crosswalk leading to the park across the street.

As reported by Bigfoot99, Saratoga Public Works Director Emery Penner will install four-way stop signs with crosswalks at the intersection near the daycare facility.

The council approved the changes Dana requested. The Valley Village vice chairwoman thanked the council and invited everyone, including members of the public, to tour the newly renovated Corbett Medical Building.

Dana said to send her an email at valleyvillageboard@gmail.com to request a tour of the building.

The Corbett Medical Building, located at 1208 South River Street in Saratoga, is the former home of the Platte Valley Clinic. The Corbett Medical Foundation donated the building to the town in 1994. Years of deferred maintenance by the town left the structure unfit for use as a childcare facility. To avoid costly repairs, Saratoga officials opted to sell the building to Valley Village Childcare for $1. When renovations are completed sometime next year, the Excel Preschool will also move into the building.
