Harriett Hageman was finally sworn in as Wyoming’s sole member of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington’s early morning hours Saturday. Hageman, along with other new House members was sworn into the 118th Congress by newly elected Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Taking the oath of office himself, the Speaker swore in the new members en masse.

Representative Hageman could be seen on the CSPAN cameras being congratulated by her colleagues. Hageman had already cast 15 floor votes—all in favor of McCarthy as House Speaker before the dramatic and historic week in the House came to an end. As for the battle to become House Speaker, McCarthy appeared good-natured and reconciliatory in his opening speech.

The Republican side of the aisle stood and cheered the remark. The Democrats, having lost control of the chamber, were silent as they were during much of McCarthy’s speech.
