‘Tis the season for the Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter’s annual Home for the Holidays adoption program.

Each December, the Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter attempts to find homes for all the stray dogs and cats in the facility. Animal Control Officer Leah Ketner said winter weather prevents the animals from enjoying a lot of outdoor exercise. Ketner said she would like to have people take the animals home, either permanently through adoption, or temporarily as a foster.

Ketner and Rawlins Police Lieutenant Daria Hooper run the animal shelter together.

ACO Ketner said the city’s animal shelter currently has ten dogs and seven adult cats available for adoption. Ketner asked people unable to permanently adopt an animal to consider fostering. Ketner explained the process of becoming an animal foster parent.

Ketner said while fostering is free, adopting an animal requires a payment. The animal control officer said the fee is based on the type of animal adopted.

The Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter is also asking for donations. In a December 1st press release, the animal shelter said, “We will have stockings on all the shelter pup’s kennels and the public can fill them with goodies! We also will have stockings in the hallway to the cat room for our kitties to get special treats and toys as well. Anything that is brought in that is too big for their stockings will be wrapped and put by our tree!”

Animal Control Officer Ketner said to bring all donations of food, supplies, and money to the animal shelter.

A list of available animals can be found on the Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter Facebook page and on Petfinder.com.
