Wyoming Game and Fish announced this week that Lake Hattie has been illegally stocked with walleye and smallmouth bass. The discovery was made during routine sampling of the popular fishing spot west of Laramie.

A release from the agency reminds anglers that the illegal transplant of fish is a violation of state law. Lake Hattie is managed as a trout fishery. More than 175,00 trout and salmon are stocked in the lake each year. Walleye and bass are both popular sport fish, but both prey on trout.

Game and Fish said it is concerned the illegal stocking will have a negative impact on the Lake Hattie fishery as well as the nearby Twin Buttes, which is connected. The agency is requesting information about the illegal stocking on the stop poaching hotline. Informants can remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
