The stage is set for a financial reckoning between the Town of Saratoga and the Upper Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District.

The district has long argued that the town has held back revenues owed through fee collections. The town clerk has refused to share her books.

An outside accountant, James Childress, was contracted to sort it out. After Childress ran the town’s set of numbers, he reported that the district is owed $93,000. The district fired back last week that its accounting shows town owes it more than double that amount – $214,000 – much of it because of bad debt and underbilling. Emma Diercks has the story.
