The Rawlins food bank needs help of its own so it can continue its mission feeding people in need.

Established in 1982, Saint Vincent de Paul in Rawlins distributes hundreds of food baskets to Carbon County residents every month.

The President of the organization, Mary Kay Albrechtson, told Bigfoot99 that inflation is making it harder for people to afford groceries. Albrechtson said the Rawlins food bank is not immune to the rising cost of food.

Last month, Saint Vincent de Paul provided 117 food baskets to residents across Carbon County, helping to feed 263 adults and 181 children. Albrechtson said Saint Vincent won’t turn anyone away.

When picking up a food basket, people will be asked for their phone number and address. Albrechtson said the information is only used in the event of a food recall. However, the food bank president said she doesn’t believe a recall has ever occurred in Rawlins.

Albrechtson said the food baskets contain staple foods suitable for both adults and children. The food bank president explained that the protein and fresh produce included in the baskets depend on what Saint Vincent has available at the time.

Leftover produce is sent to smaller food distribution centers around the county.

Albrechtson said to donate food items to Saint Vincent de Paul, call her to arrange a time to meet. The organization president said donated food must not be damaged or expired.

Albrechtson asked for monetary donations to be sent to P.O. Box 1654 in Rawlins, where the zip code is 82301. All food and money donations will help Saint Vincent de Paul continue feeding Carbon County residents.
