Saint Christopher’s Highway of Carbon County is hosting a presentation on Thursday from the Children’s Advocacy Project.

Tomorrow afternoon, the project’s Executive Director, Stacy Nelson will speak at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rawlins. Nelson said the Casper-based organization is one of only three child advocacy centers in Wyoming. The other two operate in Cheyenne and Jackson. The program has received National Children’s Alliance Accreditation, that, according to the group’s website, signifies excellence in providing services to child abuse victims.

Nelson said the Casper Children’s Advocacy Project is a private non-profit entity that provides forensic interview services for crimes against or involving children.

Nelson said Saint Christopher’s Highway of Carbon County has asked her to provide information about the services the Casper Children’s Advocacy Project offers. Nelson said Child & Family Advocate DeAnna Reish will also educate attendees about her area of expertise.

Saint Christopher’s Highway of Carbon County Board President Reverend Bobbie Fitzhugh said she wants to dedicate every other monthly meeting to educating the public. Reverend Fitzhugh said she invited Executive Director Nelson to speak in the hopes that the Casper Children’s Advocacy Project might expand into Carbon County.

Saint Christopher’s Highway of Carbon County was established in 2022 to help stranded motorists. Reverend Fitzhugh said the majority of the charity’s efforts are focused on providing fuel and shelter to travelers in need. However, the reverend said she is trying to promote all the services available to needy people in our community.

Before Nelson’s presentation, Reverend Fitzhugh said the Saint Christopher’s Highway board will attend to some administrative housekeeping. The reverend said the board will also address the $50,000 grant it received from the Foundation for the Episcopal Church in Wyoming, allowing the charity to continue helping needy travelers.

The Saint Christopher’s Highway of Carbon County meeting featuring Casper Children’s Advocacy Project Executive Director Stacy Nelson is tomorrow, April 25th, from noon to 1:00pm in the lower level of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 321 6th Street in Rawlins. A free homemade chicken alfredo lunch will be served during the presentation.

Reverend Fitzhugh said Regional Nurse Supervisor and Rawlins city council member Jacquelin Wells will be at the May 23rd Saint Christopher’s board meeting to give a presentation on human trafficking.
