In Rawlins, Fire Battalion Chief Allen Robinson will step up and serve as the city’s Interim Fire Chief.

At the February 6th Rawlins city council meeting, City Manager Tom Sarvey said Fire Chief Blain Schumacher had submitted his resignation, effective Friday, February 9th. At that time, Sarvey said Battalion Chief Robinson will serve as the temporary fire chief.

Interim Fire Chief Robinson sat down with Bigfoot99 to talk about his new appointment. Robinson said for the past 25 years, he’s been working his way through the ranks of the Rawlins Fire Department.

The interim chief said he doesn’t expect any surprises to come from his appointment. Robinson said as battalion chief, he handled most of the same responsibilities as he will now.

Robinson said he won’t make any major changes while serving as interim fire chief. Even if he is selected to hold the position permanently, Robinson said he still won’t make any big changes to the way the Rawlins Fire Department operates.

Bigfoot99 asked Interim Fire Chief Robinson what types of calls the Rawlins Fire Department receives most. Robinson said like most fire departments across the country, 95% of their time is spent handling non-fire emergencies.

City Manager Sarvey will begin interviewing candidates for the permanent fire chief position soon. A decision should be made within two months.
