After two years of being closed, the Medicine Bow United Methodist Church is reopening with a new pastor.
This Sunday, September 3rd, the United Methodist Church in Medicine Bow is holding a meet and greet with Pastor Adam Barron. Beginning at 11:00am, the church will provide food and games for the community. Pastor Barron said the event is meant to remind people that the church exists. The pastor said Sunday’s event will feature free activities and food.
Two weeks ago, Pastor Barron took over the United Methodist Church in Medicine Bow. The church was closed for roughly two years after the previous pastor retired. Barron said after two years of vacancy, the 50-year-old church building needed work to make it ready to hold services again.
To save money, the pastor said he did most of the work himself.
Pastor Barron isn’t a Wyoming native. The pastor said while he’s lived in Medicine Bow for half a decade, he was born in Georgia. Pastor Barron said his previous career brought him to the University of Wyoming in Laramie where he fell in love with the area.
Pastor Barron said he became involved with the Methodist Church while living in Georgia. After moving to Medicine Bow, Pastor Barron said he received his divinity degree from Liberty University, an online Christian college in Virginia. Afterwards, the pastor said Methodist Church Wyoming District Superintendent Mark Calhoun offered him a chance to reopen the shuttered church in Medicine Bow.
On top of his bachelor’s degree in divinity, Pastor Barron said he also has an associate degree in fire science from Casper University. Pastor Barron said he is a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the town of Medicine Bow.
The meet and greet for Pastor Adam Barron is 11:00 am this Sunday, September 3rd, at the United Methodist Church at 512 Wyoming Street in Medicine Bow. Pastor Barron said regular church services will begin again on Sunday, September 17th.
