After numerous resignations and running short-handed for a time, the community of Medicine Bow once again has a full town council.

Crystal Mayfield has been chosen out of a field of three applicants to fill the last vacant seat on the Medicine Bow town council.

Following the resignation of Bradley Buum in November, the Medicine Bow town council was one member short. Councilman Justin George was selected as Buum’s replacement, leaving George’s former seat open.

After George became mayor, the council officially declared a vacancy on the board. The town collected letters of interest from people wanting to take the now-empty seat.

At Monday’s Medicine Bow town council meeting, Mayor Justin George said three people submitted letters of interest for the vacant council position. Mayor George began by reading Crystal Mayfield’s letter.

Mayor George continued to read from Mayfield’s letter of interest. Mayfield said she is skilled at writing and managing grant applications.

In her letter of interest, Mayfield said her years of event planning experience will also be useful to the town. Mayor George continued reading Mayfield’s letter of interest.

After finishing Mayfield’s letter, Mayor George moved on to the second applicant. The mayor said Pete Tyler would also like to join the Medicine Bow town council.

The final letter of interest for the town council was from former town clerk Alice Clark. Mayor George read Clark’s letter.

When Mayor George finished reading the last letter of interest, the Medicine Bow town council had a brief executive session to discuss the applicants.

After the meeting resumed, Councilman Trevor Strauch motioned to choose Crystal Mayfield to fill the empty council seat. Councilwoman Kristi Wickizer seconded and Mayfield was official selected as the newest Medicine Bow town council member.

Mayor George called Mayfield up to take the oath of office. Town Clerk and Treasurer Alice Miller administered the oath.

After the oath of office, Mayfield took her seat with the other town council members. Mayor George said he and the council are automatically bonded. The mayor said Mayfield is immediately able to vote.

Mayfield joins fellow council members Sharon Kahl, Trever Strauch, and Kristi Wickizer as the final member of the Medicine Bow town council.
