Memorial Hospital of Carbon County has discontinued labor and delivery services at the women’s clinic. The decision, described as emotional and difficult by administrators, was announced after an executive session on Thursday night.

The OB/Gyn services were dropped because of costs. In a release, the board stated that the cost of traveling nurses has played a role in the eroding cash position of the organization. Hospital officials note that the facility has lost permanent nursing staff, forcing a reliance on traveling nurses and creating a financial imbalance operationally.

Bigfoot 99’s Cali O’Hare will have more on this story tomorrow.
