UW will not renew president’s contract

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees moved unexpectedly last week to replace Laurie Nichols as president.

The board announced that it will not renew Nichols’ three-year contract when it expires on June 30th. At that point, an acting president will take over the post until a permanent replacement can be found following a nationwide search.

The board heard criticism for the move during last week’s monthly meeting. On Friday, trustees released a statement saying Nichols and her team had put UW on “a very positive trajectory.” The outgoing president reportedly told the Faculty Senate last week that she was “very surprised” her contract would not be renewed. The board as not given any reason for the change.
