Carbon County Museum reopens after renovation

In recent weeks, the Carbon County Museum in Rawlins has undergone some big changes to both the facility itself and the staff. Cali O’Hare sat down with the director to talk about what’s new and filed this report.

 

 

Project connecting USFS office to Saratoga water and sewer delayed until April

In Saratoga, Brush Creek Hayden Ranger District connection to the town’s sewer and water system has not been problem-free. The project was recently postponed until April. Forest Service officials also plan to address construction concerns after the contractor continued work without oversight during the government shutdown. City of Casper joins Carbon County in federal lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies

The City of Casper recently joined Carbon County in a federal lawsuit alleging top pharmaceutical companies are responsible for playing a role in what has been called a national opioid epidemic.

Last week, the Carbon County Commissioners approved an addendum to its legal services agreement with the law firm hired to litigate the case. Cali O’Hare has the latest update in this story.

WHP urges drivers to slow down as Wyoming highway fatalities spike in 2019

The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that state highways have been deadlier than normal since the start of the year. According to WYDOT, highway fatalities in 2018 were the lowest in six years. Last year, 108 people died in vehicle crashes. So far this year, 16 people have died.

The highway patrol characterizes that as a high number. At least three of the fatalities occurred in Carbon County. Driving too fast during adverse weather conditions has resulted in some of the deaths over the last six weeks, the patrol noted in a news release Friday. People need to slow down for hazardous road conditions, the Patrol advised, and even reconsider travel plans if the weather is bad.

 

Feasibility study of critical access hospital to be presented this Wednesday

An accounting firm assessing the need for a critical access hospital in the Platte Valley is set to visit Saratoga on Wednesday. They will also share a presentation on their work at a public meeting Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Platte Valley Community Center. Emma Diercks reports.
