WHP urges drivers to slow down as Wyoming highway fatalities spike in 2019

By Jim O’Reilly

The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that state highways have been deadlier than normal since the start of the year. According to WYDOT, highway fatalities in 2018 were the lowest in six years. Last year, 108 people died in vehicle crashes. So far this year, 16 people have died.

The highway patrol characterizes that as a high number. At least three of the fatalities occurred in Carbon County. Driving too fast during adverse weather conditions has resulted in some of the deaths over the last six weeks, the patrol noted in a news release Friday. People need to slow down for hazardous road conditions, the Patrol advised, and even reconsider travel plans if the weather is bad.
