New wildfire burning near state line

A large forest fire broke out south of Hog Park Saturday night on the Colorado/Wyoming Border in the Routt National Forest Mount Zirkel Wilderness, in Jackson County, Colorado. The Fire is labeled as the Ryan Fire and is burning at approximately 1,832 acres. Emergency Fire crews including helicopters were on scene until north winds fueled rapid growth. The Carbon County Sheriffs department is working with Forest Service officials to  aid with evacuation plans.

At this time all hunters and campers in Wyoming Elk Hunt Area 13, and Deer Hunt Area 81 have been evacuated as well as the Hog Park area. Additionally the south side of Forest Service Road 496 in Carbon County has been evacuated, From it’s intersection with Forest Service Road 550 near Hog Park Reservoir, as well as east and north to its intersection at Forest Service Roads 409 and 404.

The entire east/west length of Forest Road 80 in Jackson County, Colorado has also been shut down to the public for the time being. The Ryan Fire could also impact grazing livestock in the area, and at this time there is no containment.

Type III Incident Command crews are on scene today and will transfer to the Rocky Mountain Black Type II, on Tuesday. As more details become public, Bigfoot 99 will continue its coverage on the Ryan Fire. Updates can be seen on our Facebook page.

 

SCWEMS finalizes air ambulance partnership

Since the reforming of their board about six months ago, South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Services made some productive changes. Their two latest projects include finalizing a contract with Classic Air Medical to provide air ambulance to the service area and moving their headquarters from Elk Mountain to Saratoga. Emma Diercks has the story.

 

Mobile veterans center stops in Rawlins

The Casper Mobile Vet Center is traveling to Rawlins this week to provide free services to veterans and their families. Staff will be on site to answer questions and help set up services, beginning Tuesday morning. Cali O’Hare has the details.

 

Saratoga landfill road improvements begin this week

The long awaited repaving of the Saratoga landfill road is planned for this week with the assistance of left over rotor millings from the Saratoga Jet Center and the help of the Carbon County Road and Bridge’s machinery. Emma Diercks has been following the process and filed this report.

 

Rawlins officials continue discussion on urban deer solution

Rawlins city officials will once again meet to discuss the urban deer population and what to do about it. A city council workshop has been scheduled for tomorrow evening to review the municipality’s proposed Urban Deer Reduction Plan, which includes giving RPD officers the authority to use live fire to take a set number of deer residing within city limits. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in the conversation. Cali O’Hare has the update.
