The Carbon County Road and Bridge Department reminds travelers that County Road 297 – The North Hanna Access Road – is closed and has been closed since last summer.

Sizable sinkholes have developed along the road that pose a danger to the traveling public.

Driving your vehicle into one of the sinkholes that have developed along the highway could cause extensive damage to your vehicle as well as personal injury. Motorists are advised to be smart and avoid the road.

Barriers are posted to discourage travel.

Carbon County Road and Bridge Superintendent Kandis Fritz told Bigfoot 99 in an email that the county has closed the 297 so federal officials can begin work to fill the abandoned mines under the road surface.

Apparently with warmer weather, some adventurers have had the itch to travel the road.
