Memorial Hospital of Carbon County is inviting residents to a special breast health awareness event next month.

On October 19th, at the Rawlins Depot Station, Memorial Hospital is hosting Mammos and Mimosas. Director of Strategic Operations Stephanie Hinkle explained the event.

Hinkle said the Mammos and Mimosas event was made possible through a grant from the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative.

Cathy Holman, known as Prairie Wife in Heels, will deliver the keynote speech during next month’s event. Hinkle said Holman will offer a collection of stories and insights on her own personal struggle with breast health.

Local breast cancer survivor Deb Engstrom will also discuss her cancer journey.

Hinkle said Mammos and Mimosas is designed to educate Carbon County residents about the types of breast health services available in our area, such as 3D mammography at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County.

In addition to the two keynote speakers, representatives from the Wyoming Cancer Coalition will be present during next month’s event. Hinkle said the state officials will discuss the types of cancer screening financial assistance programs available to attendees.

After the Mammos and Mimosas event, Memorial Hospital of Carbon County is offering mammograms at the hospital. Hinkle said the test may be entirely covered by a patient’s insurance. Uninsured patients may use a state financial assistance program to pay for the diagnostic.

Hinkle couldn’t say exactly how many appointments will be available following the Mammos and Mimosas event. She encouraged residents to register now by calling the Memorial Hospital radiology department at 324-8381.

Hinkle said Memorial Hospital is asking all Carbon County residents and business owners to create baskets for the event. Called Baskets for Breast Cancer, money raised by the auction will go to the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative.

All baskets must be submitted to Memorial Hospital by October 14th.

By offering drinks and a sense of community, Hinkle said Mammos and Mimosas will help people feel more comfortable addressing a potentially unpleasant topic: breast cancer.

Memorial Hospital of Carbon County’s Mammos and Mimosas event will be held Saturday, October 19th from 10:00 am to noon at the Rawlins Depot Station, located at 400 West Front Street. Attendance is free.

Later that same day, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, mammographs will be offered in the hospital building, located at 2221 West Elm Street. Space is limited. Call 324-8381 to make an appointment.
