The man killed in a shootout with a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper has been identified as 24-year-old David Fann of Lander. The Fremont County Coroner made the announcement on Thursday.

The still unidentified trooper exchanged gunshots with Fann on Sink Canyons Road during the initial stages of a traffic stop. The incident happened on Friday, June 28, at about 3:30 in the afternoon. Few other details are available. The Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting a review of the incident.

Media reports stated that traffic was closed through the canyon with the Lander mayor helping to direct traffic at one point as emergency vehicles converged on the scene. The trooper was wounded in the shootout, but was released from the hospital the next day. A person with a law enforcement background who know the trooper told Bigfoot 99 say that he is doing well given the circumstances.
