A local cat rescue is hosting a thrift sale and adoption event.

Pet Partners of Carbon County is selling donated items to raise money for the care and treatment of homeless cats. The sale, which began yesterday, continues today, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, and tomorrow, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Saturday is also an adoption event. Pet Partners is offering a special deal on Saturday. Adopt one kitten at the regular price of $50, and the second adoption is half price. All adult cats are free. Kittens adopted from Pet Partners of Carbon County will be spayed or neutered and receive the first year’s vaccines and deworming for free.

Pet Partner President Margaret Quintrall said the yearly fundraiser sale goes to help the rescue handle the constant influx of cats and kittens.

Quintrall said all the items available to purchase at the thrift sale were donated by the local community. The Pet Partners president said nothing has a set price. Just pay what you think is reasonable. Quintrall said she’ll haggle with you if the offer is too low.

Along with the continuing thrift sale, Saturday is the Pet Partners adoption event. Quintrall said she’ll have 30 kittens available to adopt.

In total, Quintrall said Pet Partners has 70 kittens and nine adult cats in various stages of care. Social cats can be adopted, but the most aggressively feral animals are fixed and returned to where they were found.

Quintrall said the number of cats the rescue receives can be overwhelming. The Pet Partners president said many of the animals will never make good indoor pets. The cats are better suited for outdoor pest control. Quintrall said Pet Partners ensures the animals are healthy before they are released.

The harsh winter did nothing to stem the tide of incoming cats. Quintrall said Pet Partners has taken care of more animals this year than in 2022.

Quintrall said Pet Partners of Carbon County is funded by a combination of private donations and public funding from the City of Rawlins. However, Quintrall said Rawlins provides less than half of the rescue’s yearly operational costs. The remainder of the budget is made up through donations and fundraisers.

The Pet Partners of Carbon County thrift sale and adoption event is at the former site of Geek-ish Things, at 208 West Cedar Street, in Rawlins. The sale is today, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Tomorrow’s sale and adoption event goes from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Quintrall said Pet Partners volunteers will stay later if needed.
