A Rawlins city council member says streets on the east side of town need major repairs.

In 2019, Carbon County voters approved the 6th Penny Special Purpose Tax. Each municipality submitted a list of projects they would like to use the money to complete. One of the projects for the city of Rawlins is, “Rebuild Edinburgh Street from Dunphail to Murray, improving access to Highland Hills and business along Edinburgh.”

Speaking at the February 20th Rawlins city council meeting, Ward Two Councilman Darril Garner said the intersection of Edinburgh Street and Inverness Boulevard is in bad shape. Councilman Garner said Public Works Director Cody Dill and his team have been doing their best to keep the roads behind the movie theater open to traffic.

Councilman Garner said the potholes on Edinburgh Street have made the road unsafe to drive on. The councilman said conditions have gotten so bad that motorists are forced into the opposing lane of travel.

Garner asked his fellow councilmembers to concentrate on repairing the sewer lines beneath Edinburgh Street. The councilman said he thinks the entire road may be sliding down the hill toward Inverness Bouvard.

Councilman Garner asked for a work session to discuss the repairs needed on Edinburgh Street. The other council members did not address Garner’s concerns.

At the March 19th Rawlins city council meeting, Councilman Garner said his Ward Two constituents are still requesting something be done with Edinburgh Street. No work session was scheduled to discuss repairs to the road.
