In Rawlins, the skate park could open as early as today or tomorrow. Parks and Recreation Director Jason Sehon told council last Tuesday that the ramps and other features arrived last week. Sehon’s announcement came while he was talking about how well the dog park has been received by the community since it opened three Saturdays ago.

Sehon said the crew was scheduled to work over the weekend to install the newly arrived equipment.

The skate park is located right next to the dog park at Key Club Park on Colorado Street. Mayor Terry Weickum, who was not a fan of the dog park during the early development phases, said that he as been won over after seeing how much use the facility is seeing.

Sehon passed the praised on to the private citizens who attended town hall meetings and offered their ideas on how two areas should be developed. Mayor Weickum said that between the dog park and now the skate park, that area of the city will be much improved. Rawlins Public Information Officer Mira Miller said the skate park could open today. Her office is expected to issue a release later today.
